APPG holds Birmingham Community Consultation

31 August 2018

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims conducted a Birmingham community consultation on the working definition of Islamophobia, yesterday evening at the Bordesley Centre.
The event comprised a panel of speakers including Rt Hon Baroness Syeeda Warsi, who hosted and chaired the panel, Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, Shabana Mahmood MP, Mustafa Mohammed, Chair of Association of Muslim Police and Mehmooda Qureishi from Hope Not Hate.
The event, which was attended by a large number of members of the community, started with brief presentations from the speakers on the issues around Islamophobia faced by the Muslim community and the fact that it has been on the rise more recently. After the presentation, members of the audience were given an opportunity to put forward questions, issues and concerns which highlighted some areas that the APPG could look at when arriving at a common definition of Islamophobia to enable the concerned authorities to tackle this hate crime in society.
