A public meeting was organised by Birmingham Against Spy Cameras on Sunday 4th July 2010 at the Bordesley Centre. The meeting raised concerns regarding the surveillance cameras that are placed in areas with a predominately Muslim population and demanded to have these cameras removed.
The event also attracted local and international media attention, with journalists from local BBC news, French, Russian and Iranian TV. Assistant Chief Constable Sharon Rowe of West Midlands Police apologised to all present for the way the police handled the situation regarding the cameras and confirmed that the 72 hidden cameras will be removed and that the cameras will not have anything to do with counter terrorism. |
